You know, pull the pin and squeeze, right? If you have never utilized a fire extinguisher you will find out the hard way. When something catches fire you are in shock and caught off guard. Most people forget where they stored their fire Extinguisher adding to the stress
When they finally find the fire extinguisher they are so nervous they fumble around to pull the pin, then squeeze the handle. In that split second they have emptied the entire Fire Extinguisher and the fire is still burning. Now what.
Think of fire as a triangle. Fire needs Fuel, Oxygen, and Heat. Without one the fire cannot exist. Your job to stop the out of control fire in your van or RV is to separate one of the elements from the other.
The diagram above shows to Pull the pin, Aim at the Base, Squeeze Trigger and Sweep. One more thing to ad is Squeeze and Release!
Do not hold the handle down the entire time and empty the
Squeeze and sweep the base of the fire then Release. Make a second pass quickly and release. Check to see if the fire is out. If not, Repeat until the fire
Most fires are never fully extinguished because the Fire Extinguisher is too small, we become nervous under pressure, then squeeze and empty the fire Extinguisher completely before we have contained the fire.
Take time to practice. In the military, we always train and practice over and over. When the time comes and you need it, your reaction is natural and fluid.
